On the road again.... Summer Vacation 2013

We love to travel, especially to new places.  This summer we decided to go to a place the entire family loves....  Disney World.  Usually we leave early, drive until we get tired, and arrive in two days.  This time we decided to visit some places along the way that we usually fly right by.   One thing we like to do when we travel is to stop if we see something that we want to do.   We have a big plan of our trip but not every stop is planned out.  One pit stop we made was mainly for Haylee and David.  We did not tell her we were stopping until we pulled up and she could see the Duck Dynasty trailer.   Godwin was there signing autographs but we didn't have anything for him to sign.  We went into the store to buy postcards and when we came out, he was leaving so no autographs for us this time.

Trying to stay busy in the car to pass the time...

We finally made it to Mississippi for the night.  We are staying in Vicksburg in hopes of seeing the battlefield tomorrow.

We also try to eat a local places when we travel.  We founds this drive-in called Bumpers.  The food was very good.

Day 12

Our last stop on this vacation was Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo.  We have been through Amarillo half a dozen times and never stopped.

 Carson's turn...
 A smiley face...

We had another amazing summer vacation.  We are already making plans for our next trip.

Day 11

We headed out early and stopped in Albuquerque for lunch.  David tried the their speciality burger and it wasn't what he expected. (or maybe we didn't really read the sign very closely)

He had the Ranchero Supreme Burger.  The menu said it had chili, but it wasn't the chili that is typically on a burger.  It was red chili which apparently meant HOT chili.

The we asked Carson what he wanted to do today.  He said that he wanted to go to a zoo.  Luckily, there was one in Albuquerque, so that is what we did.

We had a great time at the zoo.  The had some great animals.

 Peacocks were everywhere.
 Koala

We were most excited to see the polar bear.
We left and drove as we could for the evening.

Day 10

Since the sun rose early, we were up very early.  We took down the tent and went back to the Grand Canyon to see what we didn't the night before.

We headed out mid-morning.  We drove and stopped at sites along the way.  The kids begged to go on a hike.  Carson was bound and determined for us to hike down in the Grand Canyon.  As you can tell, we did not.  We did pass a trail and went on a hike to look for animals.

We only heard some birds and saw a few little squirrels.

Humphrey's Peak:  Highest in Arizona

We had lunch at the Galaxy Diner in Flagstaff.   The diner was neat looking but the food... just ok.

We also stopped at the Homolovi II Ruin.
Haylee and Carson checking out some pieces of pottery.
This was a five room house.
This was the kiva.  This room was used during ceremonies.

Our last stop of the day was at the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert.
More amazing sites...

 These were everywhere...

We had another great day.
