Then we drove further into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We are hoping to see some wildlife!
It didn't take long to see prairie dog towns. They were everywhere!
The views were beautiful!!
We also saw some horses.
FINALLY....BUFFALO
Here's some info that David learned on the visit here:
The Maltese Cross Cabin was built about 7 miles south of Medora, ND, in the wooded bottom-lands of the Little Missouri River. Built from durable ponderosa pine, the cabin was considered somewhat of a "mansion" in its day, with wooden floors, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a living room. The steeply pitched roof, an oddity at that time, created an upstairs sleeping loft for ranch hands. A 25 year old Theodore Roosevelt would call the cabin home after coming to the Badlands shortly after his mother and wife died on the same day, February 14, 1884. His mother Mittie, died from typhoid fever and his wife Alice died from Bright's disease, just days after giving birth to their daughter Alice.
We left there and headed to South Dakota. One town we went through was Sturgis. We are not bikers but yearly they go here for a rally. We were there the week before this big rally, but they were getting ready for it.
We even went to a "biker bar" for lunch.
From here it was on to Keystone, SD. We would be here for a few days. We set up our tent and then went to explore the town.
Panning for gold
They were able to find just a little bit of gold.
Tomorrow we are off to see Mount Rushmore!!
